Crisis Management
Reporter Magazine | Fall 2024
The October Edition
In fall 2024, Reporter Magazine faced a public relations crisis following the release of our October issue, which focused on student activism and protest culture at RIT. The cover featured a photo from a pro-Palestinian protest on campus, showing a student holding a large Palestinian flag. While the image was meant to reflect current campus events, it sparked backlash from several Jewish student groups, who publicly criticized the magazine on Instagram for distributing the issue near the one-year anniversary of the October 7th conflict.
As the controversy spread, some individuals began removing the issue from our campus stands. I helped lead our multi-platform response, which included publicly sharing our intent for the issue on Instagram and physically posting a printed statement at all 20 of our magazine stands to provide context and clarity.

A New PR Response Plan
In the aftermath, I developed a PR response plan for the organization to use in future crises. This experience sharpened my skills in reputation management, public communication, and strategic planning under pressure.
